At Masar Al Teeb, we recognize that having robust health and safety policies and systems only go so far.
Without the right people, attitudes, and behaviors, the right culture for the business will not be achieved. To accomplish this, MAT Co. developed its own bespoke behavioral program Safety in Action, which has been delivered to all personnel at all levels within the business since 2015.
Safety in Action outlines the framework for how we work, what we value and the behaviors we expect from everyone, which helps to create an environment in which no one is harmed and where everyone believes all accidents, incidents, and ill health are preventable. By embracing, adopting and improving on the original philosophies pioneered by several of our major clients, Safety in Action has created a workforce that is empowered not to accept unsafe acts or conditions and deliver an environment where everyone goes home safety at the end of the day.
Safety in Action is about creating a culture where people do the right thing, which not only means working to site rules and procedures but also proactively challenging unsafe acts and behaviors. Our long-term strategy focuses on the following key areas:
1- effective leadership and front-line supervision;
2- development of culture and behaviors;
3- improvements in occupational health and wellbeing;
4- continuous improvement of policies and procedures.
This strategy and workforce engagement will help us to deliver the culture we desire and move us closer to achieving our vision of exemplary health, safety and environmental performance. Or in other words: Confidence in Competence.
To help us to maintain the highest standards in health and safety, we operate a health and safety management system that is accredited to BS OHSAS 18001 (soon to become ISO45001) and subject to both internal and external audits.
Our project managers and supervisors meet Build IRAQ’s Oil Field minimum competency requirements, including SMSTS and SSSTS, to ensure the safe planning, management, and supervision of work activities.
Health and wellbeing
Masar Al Teeb is a member of the Constructing Better Health (CBH) scheme and we support its vision to protect the health and wellbeing of our workforce. As part of our commitment to CBH, we have introduced a company-wide medical and health surveillance scheme. This positive investment focuses on best practices and meeting the latest industry standards for work-related occupational health and safety.
We are members of Bawabat Al Fayhaa – Bafco Co. and support them in raising awareness of mental health issues and promoting positive mental wellbeing through the delivery of ‘Start the Conversation’ sessions to our workforce, campaigns and the provision of Mental Health Champions and First Aiders.
Driver behavior and Safety
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) provides our customers and the public with the assurance that we are an operator that has achieved this important standard which is based upon legal compliance, safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
Our industry requires that all HGVs delivering to its projects are fitted with the necessary safety equipment and that all our drivers have undergone the Driver Training scheme for the protection of vulnerable road users.
We have recently renewed our entire commercial fleet, with the appropriate telematics to manage and monitor fleet performance, driver behavior and provision of real-time scheduling information for our clients.
Masar Al Teeb is also a listed Champion of the Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) scheme involved in the management of work-related road risk and road safety culture in the construction industry.
